Salary Range: $32.11-$44.95 per hour DOE

Position Summary:

Provides support to the overall Grant Team, conducts research on potential funding sources and grant opportunities for maintenance or expansion of tribal programs and services. Participates in planning, organization, and administration of various grants. Honors and represents the mission, vision, and values of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and Administration department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and researches corporate, foundation and government sources of funding.
  • Meets with program staff in determining funding needs and departmental goals; explores potential funding opportunities; participates in the planning and journal entry requests and monitoring of grant proposals prepared by the grant team and CIT departments.
  • Assist in coordinating, preparing, or compiling components of grant proposals for review and approval prior to submission; assists in reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating grant documents and budget when necessary.
  • Research agency requirements and assists in compiling budgets and budget justifications.
  • Monitors procedures and systems needed for maintaining accurate databases and documentation as per grant program requirements; makes recommendations for change as needed.
  • Creates and distributes standard and special reports, studies, summaries, and analyses as required or requested.
  • Prepare and/or review information and reports for internal and external compliance.
  • Conduct routine compliance reviews of grants.
  • Maintain a database for active grants including grant research, pre-aware, submission, and post-award data input.
  • Develops and maintains a library of reference documentation including information such as funding agency requirements and forms, curriculum vitae, abstracts, literature, and other pertinent materials.
  • May assist in pursuing grant funding for the continuation or expansion of department or program services and functions; refers applicable grant and funding sources to other CIT departments and programs.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal/state grant and contract funding mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of traditional forms of government and tribal customs and traditions.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and record-keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in Windows environment.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in English, Communications, Office Administration, or a related field preferred. May substitute with Associates degree along with three (3) years of Grant experience.
  • Three years experience in Office Administration, and Grant Research
  • Valid driver’s license is required when driving vehicles for work-related purposes.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening/investigation according to the established requirements below.
  • Experience with maintaining a business/grant database system.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and clarity of vision at long distance.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening weekend work may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
