WAGE RANGE: $21.85 - $25.10 per hour DOE

Position Summary:
Performs basic and routine maintenance duties on tribal buildings, grounds, and facilities to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Honors and represents the mission, vision, values of CIT and the Public Works department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinates with fire marshal to complete annual elevator, alarm, and fire system testing.
- Performs monthly inspections of buildings, lights, fire extinguishers, and defibrillators.
- Maintains appropriate records on equipment, warranties, inspections, and work performed.
- Provides setup and teardown of meeting and conference rooms.
- Assists with minor maintenance of facilities including replacement of light fixtures, painting, and repair of plumbing fixtures.
- Maintains parking areas and grounds, including plant care, litter control, de-icing, and snow removal.
- Mows and weeds all lawns; prunes trees.
- Maintains and repairs irrigation system.
- Cleans gutters and pressure washes windows.
- Loads and unloads materials needed for work.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Moves equipment, materials, and furnishings as needed.
- Provides guidance and training to custodial staff.
- Inventories and requests equipment and supplies; updates MSDS book.
- Communicates with on-site contractors.
- Assists with work orders and construction projects, including build out, sanding, mudding, and painting.
- Sanitizes building common areas multiple times each day; performs biohazard waste cleanup.
- Performs general custodial and trash removal tasks as needed.
- Adheres to safety procedures and utilizes safety apparel as appropriate.
- Maintains confidential information.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of safe operation of tools, power tools, and grounds keeping equipment.
- Knowledge of grounds keeping, maintenance, and repairs.
- Knowledge of use of maintenance tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
- Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
- Ability to learn the methods of cleaning and caring for buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Ability to work flexible hours including occasional weekends.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow verbal or written instructions.
- Ability to use hand tools and electrical tools.
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks within strict deadlines.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Two years’ experience in maintenance or custodial work, or related experience.
- Valid driver’s license is required when driving vehicles for work-related purposes.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.
Tribal preference in accordance with Cowlitz Indian Tribe Code and CIT Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook shall apply to all positions. All positions are required to adhere to CIT’s established safety policies regarding vaccine requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Background Investigation Requirements:
- Pre-employment drug screen.
- Reference checks, education and employment verification.
- Federal, state, and/or tribal criminal history and sanction checks including fingerprint verification.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk, hear, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb. Normal visual acuity is required by this job. The employee frequently will lift and/or carry objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an interior setting and in an outdoor environment. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and cleaning agents will occur. Exposure to unpleasant odors, bodily fluids, infectious disease, or hazardous material will occur. Work is frequently performed near hazardous and/or moving equipment or machinery. Situations will occur where protective clothing, equipment, devices, and materials are needed. Noise level is usually moderate to excessive. Evening and/or weekend work may be required.
